Matthew Busby was born in Orbiston (Lanarkshire) on 26 May, 1909. He died on 20 January, 1994.
Although he won just one international cap, Matt Busby’s fame as a manager with Manchester United eclipsed his playing career, culminating in the European Cup win in 1968. As a player, he joined Manchester City from junior team Denny Hibs at the age of 18 and went on to establish himself as a halfback in the Maine Road team, winning an FA Cup winner’s medal in 1934.
