Biography

George Elder Burley was born in Cumnock (Ayrshire) on 3 June, 1956.
He joined Ipswich Town straight from school in 1971, turning professional two years later, and made most of his career with the Portman Road side. Playing at right back, he could also initiate attacking moves and was a mainstay of the team that won the FA Cup in 1978. Capped for Scotland at schools, youth, Under 21 and Under 23 level, it was no surprise when he made his mark on the full national side. Moved to Sunderland
