Russell Martin

Biography

The versatile defender joined Norwich City in January 2010, after impressing on loan the previous year from Peterborough United.

Dubbed "The Norfolk Cafu" by Canaries fans for his performances at right-back, Russell played in every minute of season 2010/11 as his side earned promotion to the English Premier League.

Eligible for Scotland through his father, Brighton-born Russell's consistency attracted the attention of then national coach Craig Levein.

He earned his first cap as a substitute in the 3-1 Carling Nations Cup win over Wales on 25 May 2011, and made his first start in a friendly against Slovenia in February 2012.

Russell made his first competitive start in June 2013 in a 1-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Croatia in Zagreb, earning plaudits for his partnership with Grant Hanley at the centre of defence.
