Charlie came through the Rangers youth academy and enjoyed loan spells at Ross County, St Mirren and Blackpool before signing for the Seasiders on a permanent basis in 2009.
He was a mainstay of the team that secured promotion to the English Premier League in 2010. He won widespread plaudits for his commanding midfield performances in the top division and established himself as a key member of Craig Levein's Scotland squad. He secured a move to Liverpool in July 2011.
Charlie made appearances for the Scotland under-21 and B squads before gaining his first senior cap in a 1-0 friendly win over Austria in May 2007.
