Robert Beattie was born in Kilmarnock on 24 January 1916. He died on 21 September 2002. Bob Beattie joined Kilmarnock as a 16 year old in 1932 and did well at inside left. He moved to Preston North End in 1937, joining Andy Beattie (no relation) in the team which won the FA Cup at the end of his first season. During the War he guested for various clubs including Notts County, Northampton Town, Everton, Blackpool and Liverpool. His playing career with Preston lasted until 1955, with further success as Division 2 champions in 1951. He played for a short while with Wigan Athletic before retiring. |
