John Dick was born in Glasgow on 19 March 1930.
A prolific goalscorer, he started out in junior football with Maryhill Harp but moved to London and played for Critalls Athletic as an amateur. Aged 23, he signed for West Ham United in May 1953, and spent nine years with the club before transferring across the city to Brentford in September 1962. He ended his career in the Southern League with Gravesend and Northfleet from 1965. He averaged a goal every second game in his league career - 198 in 398 games - generally from the inside left position. |
