Player Bio

Daniel Blair was born in Camlachie, Glasgow, on 2 February 1905. He died on 5th August, 1985.
Danny Blair had an eventful start to his career, as his academic studies took him from Glasgow schools to Ireland and to Canada. He assisted a number of clubs in Canada, including Devonport Albion, Toronto Scottish and Willys Overland Motor Works, and turned professional with Providence FC of Rhode Island, USA - all before he turned 20. In 1925 he came back to Glasgow and played briefly with Parkhead Juniors before signing for Clyde, where his speed, positional sense and fierce tackling earned him international recognition. In November 1931 he was transferred to Aston Villa, and made 129 league appearances before moving to Blackpool in summer 1936. His career was effectively ended by the war, but he continued to play until about 1944, with some guest appearances for Southport included.
