Dr James Marshall was born in Avonbridge (Stirlingshire) on 3 January, 1908. He died on 27 December, 1977.
Doc Marshall was a memorable goalscorer for Rangers, averaging better than a goal every two games in over 250 appearances. He joined the Ibrox club in 1925 from Shettleston, and spent nine successful seasons, winning the Scottish League six times (1927, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1933 and 1934) and the Scottish Cup three times (1930, 1932, 1934). He combined his playing career with his medical studies and qualified as a doctor while at Rangers. He moved to London for his medical career in 1934 and joined Arsenal. After only four appearances for them he moved to West Ham United, and played 57 times over the next two seasons. He appeared briefly for Ashford Town before retiring from the game. |
