Kirk was born in Irvine on 8th August, 1984.

In his professional career he has played for Hibernian and St Mirren before signing for Rangers in 2007.  He won 5 U21 caps and 3 B International caps before being called up to the Scotland A squad by George Burley in 2008.

Kirk scored Scotland’s opening goal against Iceland on his debut in September, 2008. His goal helped Scotland to a 2-1 victory in an important  European Championship Qualifying match.
