| Match Report |

| To secure a place in the World Cup play-offs Scotland had to win by six clear goals and hope that Belgium could win in Croatia. In the event neither of these happened and the immediate impact was Craig Brown's resignation as Scotland manager after eight years in the job. The match itself played in front of a small crowd at least showed good fighting spirit from the Scotland team after the lively Latvians took an early lead with Andrejs Rubins scoring in 21 minutes. His Crystal Palace teammater Dougie Freedman equalised with a header just before half time on his debut and victory was assured with David Weir shooting home early in the second half. |
