James Hepburn was born in Alloa (Clackmannanshire), circa 1860. Date of death not known.
A leading light of early football in Alloa, Hepburn joined the club on its foundation in 1878 and remained with the club throughout his playing career, a big reliable full back. By 1886 he was club captain, treasurer and secretary (he was later secretary of the Fife FA) and his solitary cap in 1891 could be considered as something of a long service award.
