Coaching


The Scottish FA strategy for development has, at its heart, a long standing commitment to coach education and development.

 

The Adult Pathway offers five levels starting at the Club Coach Certificate through to the Scottish FA UEFA Pro Licence. The adult courses are aimed at coaches working with adult players at amateur, junior or senior club level.


Adult Level 1 Course Information
Level One - Club Coach Certificate

This 2-day course is open to coaches who work with adult Players at amateur, junior or senior club level. The course is practical in nature and looks at planning, delivering and reviewing coaching sessions around basic themes such as control, passing, possession, dribbling, finishing and defending, as well as the structure of training sessions. Applicants must be aged 18 or over.

 

Adult UEFA B Licence Information
Level Two - UEFA Basic Licence Introductory Course

Applicants for this 11-day course must have completed level one Club Coach Certificate course. Senior professional players with at least 5 years’ experience may be exempt from this criterion. Candidates should note that tutorials must be attended prior to making application for the Scottish FA UEFA Basic Licence Assessment.

 

Adult UEFA B Licence Information
Level Three - UEFA Basic Licence Assessment

Applicants for this 4-day course must have
completed the Basic Licence Introductory Course within the last five years. The aim of the course is to enable candidates to plan and deliver training sessions. Utilising your squad of players, these sessions should progress from the promotion of a theme to those which develop a phase of play evident in the 11v11 game.

Adult UEFA A Licence Information
Level Four - UEFA Advanced Licence Introductory Course

Applicants for this 13-day course must have obtained the UEFA Basic Licence within the last 5 years.Candidates should note that two 2-day tutorials must be attended prior to applying for the UEFA Advanced Licence Assessment to be held in the summer of 2009. These tutorials are in integral part of the assessment process and failure to attend will result in coursework being incomplete and, consequently, no award given.

 

UEFA Advanced Licence Assessment

Applicants for this 6-day assessment must have completed the Advanced Licence Introductory Course within the last five years. The aims of the course are:

  • To enable candidates to plan and deliver a training session which emphasises a particular Aspect of Play within a specified System of Play.
  • To develop candidates’ ability to shape a team formation both in shadow format and during match play.

Adult UEFA Pro Licence Information
Level Five- Scottish FA UEFA Pro Licence

Prospective applicants must be in possession of the UEFA A Licence and have a minimum of 2 years’ continuous coaching experience with senior players at a professional club. Applicants based outwith Scotland should be fully aware of the UEFA criteria in respect of cross-border education prior to applying.

 

The course programme, which includes a Management Course at Stirling University, will be designed around regular gatherings in Scotland, these being 2-3 day duration. Also included in the programme is:

  • A minimum 3 day visit to a professional club outwith the UK (course candidate is responsible for all co-ordination and expense involved)
  • An English Premiership club visit (course candidate is responsible for all travel expenses)
  • A UEFA Championship study for example Euro Championships (7 days), Euro U21’s Championship (7 days), or Champions’ League matches.

Applications, together with a full playing/coaching CV, must be submitted by email no later than Friday, 16 October 2010. Course numbers will be restricted and all successful applicants will be informed by Tuesday 1 December. The full course fee of £4,500 is due for payment on acceptance.
