Stewart Regan appointed as Chief Executive

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

The Scottish FA is delighted to announce the appointment of Stewart Regan as Chief Executive.

The 46-year-old joins after four years as Chief Executive of The Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Previously, Stewart was Director of The Football League Championship, where he led the rebranding and rejuvenation of the second tier of English football.

Before utilising his business acumen in the sporting world, Stewart spent 16 years in the brewing industry, most notably as Strategic Planning Director for Bass Brewers.

Stewart Regan: “I am absolutely delighted to join as Chief Executive and regard this as another huge challenge in my career. From my recent posts with The Football League and Coors Brewers, I have experience of working with a number of the key stakeholders in Scottish football.

“Scottish football has not been immune to the difficulties of the current financial climate but the passion and commitment to the national game in this country remains unrivalled. It is this loyalty and dedication that will be essential to re-establishing the game.

“I am aware there is currently a great debate on the way forward for Scottish football and it is my intention to bring all the relevant parties closer together to achieve the obvious common goal of improving the overall standard of the No.1 sport in this country.”

George Peat, Scottish FA President: “Of all the applications we received, Stewart’s stood out for the level of his success in business and sport but also for the diversity of his experience. As I have said before, the role of Chief Executive requires a wide range of skills and a thick skin but we believe Stewart is the perfect candidate to lead the Scottish FA – and Scottish football, for that matter – through a challenging but exciting period of change.

We are in the midst of a wide-ranging review of the game, led by Henry McLeish, and Stewart will now be an integral part of bringing this vision to fruition. His combination of skills in business and in sport will serve the Scottish FA well at all levels.”
