Quarter-final appointment for Craig Thomson

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

Craig Thomson’s UEFA Euro 2012 campaign will continue after he was appointed fourth official for the quarter-final between the reigning champions, Spain, and France on Saturday at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk.

UEFA confirmed today that the Scottish refereeing team will remain at the finals as one of eight who made the cut from the original 12.

Thomson, who has already refereed two fixtures at the finals, will be joined by Alasdair Ross as fifth official for the match, and Scotland’s refereeing team will find out if they are required for any further fixtures after the completion of the quarter-finals this weekend.

John Fleming, the Scottish FA’s Head of Referee Development, said: “This is fantastic news for the Scottish FA and huge boost for refereeing in Scotland.

“Twelve refereeing teams were initially appointed to officiate at the tournament and UEFA have now reduced that to eight for the final matches and I am delighted our officials have been asked to stay.

“Craig and his team have performed well in their matches to date and this has now been recognised by UEFA. I am confident that they will continue to do themselves and the country proud.”

The refereeing team consists of Craig Thomson, William Collum, Euan Norris, Alasdair Ross and Derek Rose.
