Scottish Cup Final Match Preview | Celtic v Aberdeen

Friday, 26 May 2017

William Hill Scottish Cup Final
Celtic v Aberdeen
Saturday, 26 May 2017, kick-off 3pm
Hampden Park

The season kicked-off in the summer of 2016 and tomorrow it will come to an almighty crescendo at Hampden as the top two teams in the country do battle in what is a mouth-watering prospect for the fans.

Celtic have been unstoppable so far this year, going unbeaten in the league and longing for the fourth treble in their history.

Aberdeen are searching for their first Scottish Cup win since 1990 having reached the final for the first time since 2000.

Previous meetings:

80 years ago, in 1937 the record attendance was set for the Scottish Cup with 147,365 supporters watching Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-1.

Since then, Aberdeen and Celtic have been familiar opposition and the last time the Dons won the Scottish Cup, the Bhoys were their opponents.

Brian Irvine stepped up in the 1990 shoot-out to deliver the crushing blow to Billy McNeil’s men, winning 9-8 on penalties.

This season, the sides have faced each other on five occasions with Celtic running out winners on all occasions.

What Brendan Rodgers said:

“Of course there's been a lot written and said in the last few months about what the players could achieve, in terms of going the season unbeaten. We've had to retain our focus.

"When you play for Celtic you're always under pressure because the expectancy is to win every game, but we've played a lot of big games where questions were asked in the build-up and the players have always found the answers.

“We'll go into this game ready to perform.

"No matter the result on Saturday, it's been a brilliant season for us in our first season together, knowing that next season we can only improve.

“Moussa Dembele has trained all week so he is available. He would be able to start.”

What Derek McInnes said:

“To sign off the league campaign with a convincing win last week was brilliant.

“This week has been normal in terms of preparation but we came down last night and trained in Glasgow this morning.

“The players are relaxed, confident and I firmly believe there’s a performance in the players to win the game.

“We’ve got a lot of experience in our squad and I think that’ll help us.

“The win at Ibrox was crucial as it was another box we needed to tick.

“Ryan Jack will play and he’s a players I’ve got a lot of time for. He’s an Aberdeen boy and would love nothing more than to go out as a Scottish Cup winner.

"It's ridiculous to think he wouldn't be fully committed during tomorrow's game."
