SEASON FINISHES WITH ALVA WINNING THE U13 PLATE
Alva Academy triumphed in the 2012 Lloyds TSB Scotland U13 Plate Final at Lesser Hampden with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Belmont Academy of Ayr.
Alva looked lively from the off and bossed the opening exchanges before taking the lead on 12 minutes through Kieran Murphy's sweeping 20-yard effort. The boys from Clackmannanshire doubled their lead just three minutes later. Belmont keeper Jack Meddings did well to parry a low Kieran Murphy shot but was helpless to stop Gregor Beaton from tapping in the rebound.
Alva were now in full flow and added a third when hesitancy in the Belmont defence allowed Kieran Murphy to nod home his second of the match.
There was still time for the blue and whites to extend their lead further before the break. Harry Neil scored a sublime fourth before Kieran Murphy completed his hat-trick, blasting home from close range after Belmont failed to deal with an inswinging corner.

Kieran Murphy continued his scoring streak early in the second half, nudging home his fourth goal of the night to put Alva 6-0 ahead. That goal appeared to galvanise the Belmont players and they showed great courage and desire to take the game to Alva from that point.
Their perseverance paid off on 49 minutes with good work down the right wing by Ross Connelly being rewarded when Miguel McIntosh prodded the ball home after Gregor Smith had parried Connelly's initial effort.

That proved the Ayrshire side's only consolation however and the scoring was rounded off by Stefan Mitusch who nonchalantly walked the ball into the net having rounded the hapless Jack Meddings to restore the 6-goal margin.
So the season came to a close with Alva Academy lifting the U13 Plate, adding to their recent Cashback Sevens win.
