Scotland under-19s miss automatic qualification

UEFA European Under-19 Championship Qualification Round

Norway 4 - 2 Scotland

Rakvere Stadium, Estonia

Scotland under 19s lost their final UEFA European Championship qualifying round match 4-2 against Norway yesterday and slipped to third place in the group, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification.

Estonia, Norway and Scotland all ended the group on six points but in deciding the group’s final placings, only results against each of the teams on the same number of points is considered, and Scotland’s inferior goal difference meant they finished in third place.

However, two places in the Elite round are reserved for the two third placed teams from all 13 groups with the best record against the top pair in their group. With Scotland managing a win over group winners Estonia, they are in a strong position to secure one of these places, but will have to wait until all groups in the qualifying round are completed in November to know if they have done enough.

Full match report to follow.
