Under-19 International Challenge Match
Norway v Scotland
Thursday, 23rd August 2012, kick-off 6.30pm (local time)
Kaja Stadium, Vinstra

McManus 51, Stanton 83

Scotland Under-19s came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 this afternoon as they continue their preparations for the UFEA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers.

Declan McManus and Sam Stanton scored two second-half goals after a first half slip from Scotland goalkeeper Phillip Anderson allowed Norway to take the lead just before the interval.

Scotland, who lost 1-0 to Germany in a friendly last week, started the match brightly and McManus almost put them in front early in the match after good work from John Herron but the Aberdeen striker somehow skimmed the crossbar from three yards out.

Goalkeeper Anderson then made two good stops after some good counter-attacking football from Norway.

The hosts took the lead on 31 minutes after an Anderson slip allowed the Norwegians in on goal.

Scotland responded well and almost equalised just on half time through the lively McManus but the Aberdeen striker’s header came back off the post.

McManus finally found the target six minutes into the second half after collecting a good pass from Celtic midfielder Herron and firing a low shot into the corner of the net.

Seven minutes from time, Hibs youngster Sam Stanton bagged the winning goal with a well-placed 20 yard strike.

A late surge from Norway did not result in an equaliser with Anderson making a good stop minutes from time to hand Scotland the win.

The sides will meet again on Saturday in Vinstra.

Scotland: Anderson, Miller, McManus (Gallagher 78), Davey, Grimmer (Cpt.), Turnbull (Gilmour 56), Herron, Petrie, Johnston (Stanton 67), Blake, Ferguson (Harris 55).

Subs not used: Kelly, Erwin, Grant.
