UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier
Scotland v Luxembourg
Thursday, 6th September 2012, kick-off 7.45pm
St Mirren Park, Paisley
Cash gate: £8 adults and £2 kids
Youth group offer: 5 adults and 20 kids for £30
Scotland Under-21s face a do-or-die double header against Luxembourg and Austria next month as they bid to reach the UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-offs and coach Billy Stark hopes a bumper crowd will help cheer his side on to glory.
The Scots are currently second in Group 10 and a win over Luxembourg at St Mirren Park on 6th September and another four days later away to Austria would move them on to 16 points which will give them a chance of progressing to the play-offs.
As only the group winners and four best-placed runners-up from the 10 groups advance, Scotland will need to win their remaining qualifiers and hope current group leaders the Netherlands lose their final match, an equation that would see Stark’s side finish as group winners since Scotland have a better head-to-head record over the Dutch.
Should the Netherlands win their final game, a home match against Austria on 6th September, then Scotland could still secure one of the four slots reserved for the best-placed runners-up.
Scotland must first overcome Luxembourg at home with tickets for the match available at the gate priced at £8 for adults and £2 for kids.
Supporters can also take advantage of a group offer and buy five adult and 20 kids’ tickets for just £30 (full details below).
Stark said: “These are two must-win games if we are to reach the play-offs and it would be great to see a large crowd at St Mirren Park for our last home qualifier against Luxembourg.
“We have received fantastic backing there in all of our previous qualifiers, especially in the match against the Netherlands earlier in the year where around 7000 fans cheered us on.
“If we can beat Luxembourg then we’ll have a chance of progressing to the play-offs with an away win over Austria in our final match.
“The players have put in an enormous amount of effort into this campaign so far and I know they will put everything into these final two matches.
“We believe we can win these two games and a strong crowd for our final home match would give the players a tremendous boost.”
