International Challenge Match
Norway v Scotland
Tuesday 19 November 2013
Venue and kick-off TBC
Scotland will complete their 2013 fixture schedule with an away International Challenge Match against Norway on Tuesday, November 19.
After finishing the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 qualifying campaign with a rousing 2-0 win against Croatia at Hampden Park on Tuesday, preparations begin for UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifying next year.
Gordon Strachan’s side play the United States on Friday, November 15, the last match at the national stadium before development work begins for Glasgow’s hosting of the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Scotland will then travel to Norway to complete this year’s programme of fixtures and a venue for the tie will be confirmed shortly.
The national coach believes the next two games will be vital to continue Scotland’s momentum, having won three of their final four World Cup qualifiers, including a magnificent double against the Group A top seeds, Croatia.
“We enjoyed a fantastic result at Hampden this week against a top-class nation and it is important we continue to challenge ourselves to improve,” said Gordon. “We want to build on the improvement we have seen and facing the United States and now Norway gives us an opportunity to finish 2013 in better spirits than we started the year.
“We want to give the fans reason to be optimistic ahead of the European Championship qualification campaign next year and these next two games give us an opportunity to do so against two highly respected football nations.”
Scotland will travel to Norway looking to atone for the 4-0 defeat inflicted on George Burley’s side the last time the sides met, in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in Olso in 2009.
Norway quote coach Per-Mathias Høgmo, said: “We are looking forward to playing against Scotland as part of our preparations before the qualifiers for the European Championship in France. It´s important to play as many games as possible before the qualifying, and Scotland will be a good test for us.
“Its also nice to invite them to Norway. Scotland has fantastic supporters, and I'm sure they will make a great atmosphere at the stadium."
