Youth Cup

Road to Hampden continues

Monday, 20 August 2012

The William Hill Scottish Cup first round takes place this weekend as the Road to Hampden continues.

Following two preliminary round ties earlier this month which saw Preston Athletic and St Cuthbert Wanderers progress, the competition gets fully under way with 18 ties being played on Saturday.

Last season saw juniors Auchinleck Talbot reach the fourth round of the competition where they lost out to eventual winners Hearts, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at Tynecastle.

36 clubs will be hoping to match or better Talbot's excellent run last season and this year’s Scottish Junior Cup winners Shotts Bon Accord will mark their Scottish Cup debut with a home match against Edinburgh City whilst Golspie Sutherland face a 520 mile-round trip for their first round clash with Hawick Royal Albert.

Elsewhere, Glasgow University host Newton Stewart and Highland Football League side Deveronvale will play neighbours Hermes, who lifted the North Region Junior title last season.
