Gary Caldwell first Tesco Bank Community Ambassador

Wednesday, 23 January 2013

Scotland international Gary Caldwell returned to his hometown school, Riverside Primary, in Stirling to be unveiled as the first Tesco Bank Community Ambassador.

The Wigan Athletic captain will promote the Tesco Bank Football Challenge project in partnership with the Scottish FA and will also support other activity including the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland and Tesco Bank Art Competition for Schools.

Pupils at Riverside enjoyed a football coaching session with Scottish FA staff, and had the opportunity to meet returning hero Gary.

The Tesco Bank Football Challenge is a four-year community programme run in partnership with the Scottish FA. The project introduces football to Primary two and Primary three children (six to eight years old) across Scotland to help get them engaged in a healthy and active lifestyle.

Over 50,000 children across more than 1,000 schools in Scotland have been engaged with the country’s leading football participation programme, accounting for more than 40% of the nation’s primary schools.

Gary Caldwell, Tesco Bank Community Ambassador, said: “It is brilliant to be back at my old school here at Riverside where I have happy memories.

“I’m really pleased to be supporting Tesco Bank’s community programmes. The football challenge has got thousands of kids playing and enjoying football and that can only be a good thing.”

Adele Mills, Community Investment Manager at Tesco Bank added: “We are pleased to welcome Gary Caldwell as our first Tesco Bank Football Community Ambassador.

“Tesco Bank is delighted to have such a fantastic professional to help us promote our programmes and engage the kids in fun activity. Gary sets a great example of how much can be achieved.”

Tesco Bank will be unveiling more Community Ambassadors in the months ahead.
