Promotional Film Launch

Thursday, 05 March 2009

The stars of Scottish women’s football were on hand to launch a new short film showcasing the game last night.

National Team Coach Anna Signeul and players such as Julie Fleeting, Gemma Fay and Rhonda Jones attended the premiere of “Here Come the Girls” at the Odeon Cinema, Kilmarnock. Other guests at the premiere, compered by Dougie Donnelly, included Kilmarnock FC players and manager Jim Jeffries, as well as local girls teams.

Cameras followed the Scottish Women’s National Team during their run to the play-offs for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2009 last year. The film captures the passion and excitement of the women’s game, as it focuses on a young girl who dreams of emulating her Scotland heroes.

As well as showcasing the women’s game in Scotland, the film will also be used to encourage more young girls to take up the sport.

Sheila Begbie, Head of Girls’ and Women’s Football at the Scottish FA spoke at the premiere. She said: “This is a really exciting time for all of us involved in girls’ and women’s football in Scotland. The increase in the number of young girls playing, and in the numbers of clubs for girls and women provides us with a really positive future.

We are very proud of the achievement of our Women’s National Team, and feel that “Here Come the Girls” really captures the spirit of the women’s game. Hopefully it will encourage even more young girls to get involved in football.”
