WEST (RED) CELEBRATE THEIR VICTORY IN THE U15 GIRLS INTER-REGIONAL FINAL

South-East 1 West 1  (0-2 pens)

The day started with the Final to make the travelling arrangements easier for all teams.  South-East were out to win for the third year in a row and again faced West in the Final.  (Click here for the tournament from last season.)

South-East started strongly and had a good cross and shot blocked in the first minute. Alyshia Walker just missed the target with a free kick and forced a couple of good saves from Laura Hamilton. Against the run of play West scored after 25 minutes when the ball broke to Carla Boyce and she cleverly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box, 0-1.

West gained confidence from this and had more possession at this stage. Shortly before halftime South-East scored the equaliser when in the 38th minute Alyshia Walker reacted quickly in the box to hit a low shot through a crowded goalmouth into the bottom corner, 1-1.

Halftime : South-East 1 West 1

The second half started with good play from both teams, forcing corners without breaking down good defences. With 10 minutes to go Alyshia Walker raced through and hit a powerful shot but Laura Hamilton made a good save. South-East nearly grabbed the winner with only 2 minutes left but Alyshia Walker's shot hit the base of the right-hand post and the ball bounced up into Laura Hamilton's hands.

The final whistle blew with the final score at 1-1 so it went to a penalty shoot-out with each side to take three.

West took the first kick and Courtney Whyte scored and then it was Laura Hamilton's chance to shine when she saved South-East's powerful first kick high to her right. Claire Adam, who had had an outstanding game, stepped up and scored witha strong shot low into the corner to make it 2-0 for West. South-East needed to score to stay in the shoot-out but missed the target, so Laura Hamilton was able to celebrate with her West team-mates who rushed towards her in delight.

Final score : South-East 1 West 1 (0-2 pens)

East 2 Central 0

The second game was for 3rd place between East and Central.

East took control in midfield but neither team had any real chance to score until the 25th minute when East's Alex Russell forced two saves from Central keeper Sophie Laird and on the third attempt got the ball over the line, 1-0. Two minutes later Derriann Gollan, just on the pitch, scored a second for East with a good run through and strong shot, 2-0.

Halftime : East 2 Central 0

The second half had few exciting moments with the girls tiring - this gave the coaches the opportunity to ensure all the players in their squads had some playing time. East never looked in any danger of losing a goal and ran out winners to clinch 3rd place.

Final score : East 2 Central 0

North 4 South-West 0

The last game featured North and South-West playing for 5th place.

South-West started well in midfield but were up against a strong defence and a big North strike force who within 5 minutes had run through to score through Sophie Anderson, 1-0. After 19 minutes it was Sophie Anderson again who outran the South-West defence to score her second goal, 2-0.

Any time South-West created a chance they found beating Becky Flaherty in the North goal impossible. With halftime approaching Sheena Nichol took over the role of goalscorer and netted similar goals in the 24th and 27th minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

Halftime : North 4 South-West 0

The second half followed the pattern of the previous game with coaches making sure all their players took part in the game and few chances were made by either team.

Final score : North 4 South-West 0
