Regional league winners seal play-off place

Tuesday, 15 October 2013

The Scottish Women’s Football 2nd Division Regional leagues came to a dramatic and exciting finale on Sunday.

After victory over title rivals Dee Vale last weekend, Aberdeen Reserves knew they would finish champions of the North Division if they took anything from their encounter with Aberdeen Development.

The Reds took care of business in style, recording a 6-1 victory at Blairgownie Playing Fields and ensuring their place in the play-offs in two week’s time.

Jeanfield Swfits took the East/Central title by one point after Sunday’s 6-2 victory over bottom of the table East Fife Violets.

With Falkirk Ladies Reserves thrashing Dunfermline 2013 elsewhere there was no scope for Jeanfield to drop points and they didn’t.

It was a little more comfortable for Claremount Ladies in the West/South West league after they finished four points ahead of Glasgow Girls.

Elsewhere there was a dramatic finale in the South East league when Hibernian Development came from behind to defeat city rivals Heart of Midlothian 3-2 and pip Spartans Reserves to the title.

SWFL offers their congratulations to all four clubs for winning their respective leagues with the play-off fixtures confirmed as follows;

Play-off 1 Hibernian Development v Claremont Ladies, kick-off 12pm
Play-off 2 Jeanfield Swifts v Aberdeen Reserves, kick-off 3:15pm*

*kick-off may be delayed dependent on the need for extra-time or penalties in the first tie.

Each club will be presented with their trophies and medals for winning their respective leagues following completion of each play off on Sunday 27 October at Recreation Park.

Placing matches will take place one week later on Sunday 3 November as below;

Winner Play-off 1 v Winner Play-off 2
Loser Play-off 1 v Loser Play-off 2

Winners of both Play-off 1 and 2 will automatically be promoted, along with the winner of the 3rd/4th play-off
