Refereeing & Disciplinary

Whistleblower

In the average SPL and SFL weekly programme it has been estimated that referees and assistant referees will make approximately 10,000 decisions in controlling a match. A referee will give obvious decisions by blowing his whistle or signalling with his hand and arm but deciding not to signal also requires a decision.

Every week referees on our top games will have the opportunity, where appropriate, to provide explanations for judgments made by them in recent matches and give an insight into how they do their job and the difficulties they encounter.

The page will also give general information on the Laws governing football, dispel a few myths which abound and explain the application of some of the rules which can be difficult to understand by those involved in playing or watching the game
