The top flight may be taking a break but Scottish football continues this weekend, with attention turning to the Scottish Cup which returns for an eagerly anticipated Third Round.

The action kicks off this evening as Open Goal Broomhill host League One side Alloa Athletic at Broadwood Stadium.

That match is followed by a busy Saturday which includes 18 ties before Ayr United round off the weekend on Monday night when they host Pollok at Somerset Park live on BBC Scotland.

Championship table-toppers Ayr United are one of 10 teams from that division who join the competition at this stage along with 10 sides from League One, while Pollok are competing in Round Three for the very first time after seeing off Annan Athletic at the last stage.

Raith Rovers take on Auchinleck Talbot in another intriguing match up between Championship and West of Scotland League sides, with Talbot looking to repeat last year's heroics which saw them knock out Hamilton Academical at this stage.

Accies themselves face a tough task against lower league opposition again in the form of East Kilbride, while Dundee - who reached the final of this competition 20 years ago - begin their campaign with a home tie against Airdrieonians.

The Highland League is represented by Fraserburgh, Formartine United and Wick Academy, and they all look forward to interesting home ties against Arbroath, Stenhousemuir and Falkirk respectively.

Another notable tie sees Drumchapel United play SPFL opposition for the first time, as they host FC Edinburgh, looking to continue their dream debut run in the Scottish Cup.

Fourth Round Draw

The Round Four draw will take place live on BBC Scotland following the conclusion of Ayr United's match against Pollok on Monday.

Scottish golfer Ewen Ferguson, who enjoyed a breakthrough season by winning two DP World Tour events in his first year holding a full tour card, joins Jane Lewis to conduct the draw.

The 12 Premiership teams enter at this stage, including holders Rangers who defeated Hearts in last season's final.
