3. LAMBERT & VOGTS KEEP OLD FRIENDS AT BAY Scotland 1-1 Germany – June 2003 Scotland secured a credible draw in this Euro 2004 qualifying game at Hampden Park as Berti Vogts managed to frustrate his countrymen. A Fredi Bobic header dented Scotland’s hopes of an upset but the home side soon bit back thanks to Kenny Miller’s second half strike. Paul Lambert, who lifted the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund, was star of the show in one of his final appearances for the national team. 4. LAW & DALGLISH v BECKENBAUER Scotland 1-1 West Germany – November 1973 A Scotland team containing the likes of Denis Law, Kenny Dalglish and Billy Bremner hold West Germany to a draw less than a year before they’d go on to lift the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Manchester United’s Jim Holton scored for the home side with Uli Hoeness netting for the visitors (captained by a certain Franz Beckenbauer). 5. THE NIGHT WE MADE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS SWEAT Germany 2-1 Scotland – September 2014 A less memorable result but a Scotland performance that could yet propel the country to a place at Euro 2016. Gordon Strachan’s team were given little chance against the newly crowned World Champions in Group D’s opening game but came within 20 minutes of recording a famous away draw. Thomas Muller’s 70th minute strike cancelled out Ikechi Anya’s equaliser just minutes beforehand to give Germany the points in Dortmund. Will a similar performance be enough to seal the points at Hampden in September?
