Category One Referee
A referee who has demonstrated the requisite standards of performance and fitness will become the highest category of referee within the Scottish FA.
Depending upon their grouping in the category, a Category 1 Referee can officiate in the following:
SPFL Premiership, SPFL Championship, SPFL League 1, SPFL League 2
National Cup Competitions
Highland Football League
Lowland Football League
East of Scotland League
South of Scotland League
FIFA Referee
A Category 1 Referee who has been nominated by the Scottish FA Referee Committee to FIFA for inclusion in its International List of Referees.
The nomination will be determined on FIFA's criteria and also on the basis of the performance, fitness, commitment and experience of the referee.
A Category 1 Referee should also have demonstrated an exceptional potential and ability to progress within the FIFA International List of Referees.
A FIFA Referee can officiate in the following:
UEFA and FIFA Competitions
International matches
SPFL Premiership, SPFL Championship, SPFL League 1, SPFL League 2
SWPL 1 & 2
SWFL Championship
National Cup Competitions
Highland Football League
Lowland Football League
East of Scotland League
South of Scotland League
FIFA Development Referee
A Category 1 Referee who has demonstrated that they will be able to satisfy the requirements and qualities of a future FIFA Referee to allow the Scottish FA to nominate them to the FIFA International List of Referees.
The Category 1 Referee may be given the opportunity to attend a UEFA Centre of Refereeing Excellence Course.
The Category 1 Referee can officiate in the following:
UEFA Competition Matches (as an Additional Assistant Referee)
SPFL Premiership
SPFL Championship
SPFL League 1
SPFL League 2
SWPL 1 & 2
SWFL Championship
National Cup Competitions
Highland Football League
Lowland Football League
East of Scotland League
South of Scotland League
