He scored his first goal for the club during a League Cup win over Kilmarnock in 2017 and made his UEFA Champions League debut against a star-studded Paris Saint-Germain side the following month.
He moved on loan to Dundee United for the end of the 2017/18 campaign, scoring two goals as the club reached the Scottish Championship promotion play-off semi-finals.
A season-long loan to St Johnstone followed in 2019, with Ralston making 24 appearances in all competitions for the Perth side.
He became a regular starter at Celtic under manager Ange Postecoglou during the 2021/22 season and has been an established first team player at the club ever since.
At international level, Ralston was part of the Under-20 side that became the first Scotland team at any age level to beat Brazil during the 2017 Toulon Tournament.
He was called up to the Scotland senior squad for the first time ahead of a World Cup qualifying match against Denmark in November 2021, making his debut as a second half substitute.
He scored his first international goal on only his second appearance for his country during a UEFA Nations League match against Armenia in June 2022.
The defender was included as part of Steve Clarke’s squad for EURO 2024 and played in all three of Scotland’s group stage matches at the tournament.
During a friendly match against Japan in March 2026, Ralston earned his 25th cap for his country as a second half substitute.
