
Richard Asa Hartford was born in Clydebank on 24 October 1950. Spending the majority of his career in England, Hartford played for teams including West Bromwich Albion, Manchester City, Everton, Norwich City and Bolton Wanderers – winning the League Cup with Manchester City and Norwich.
Winning 50 caps for Scotland, he appeared at the 1978 and 1982 World Cups. Hartford scored five goals for his country; against Wales, Peru, Czechoslovakia, Chile and Sweden.
