
After training with the Rangers first team, he signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2017, initially playing for the club’s development side.
Gilmour made his first team debut as a substitute against Sheffield United in August 2019 and was named player of the match during his first Premier League start for the club.
The midfielder made his first Champions League start the following season and was part of the matchday squad as Chelsea went on to lift the trophy with victory over Manchester City in the final.
After a season on loan at Norwich City, he signed for Brighton and Hove Albion in 2022, helping the team to European qualification for the first time in their history.
In August 2024, Gilmour signed for Italian Serie A side Napoli on the same day as fellow Scotland international Scott McTominay.
He made 26 appearances during his debut season with the club as Napoli won the Serie A title for just the fourth time in their history.
At international level, Gilmour became the youngest ever goal scorer for the Scotland Under-21s in 2018, helping the side to the semi-finals of the prestigious Toulon Tournament and winning the ‘Revelation of the Tournament’ award.
He made his senior Scotland debut during a friendly against The Netherlands in June 2021, becoming the first Scottish FA JD Performance School graduate to be capped for the Scotland senior national team.
The midfielder made his first international start later that month, turning in a player of the match performance against England at Wembley during the group stages of the delayed EURO 2020 tournament.
Gilmour played in all three group matches at EURO 2024 and was part of the Scotland squad that qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
