
David Narey was born in Dundee on 12 June 1956 and played for the vast majority of his career with Dundee United; he holds of the honour of being the Tangerines player with the most appearances.
During his career with the Arabs, Narey won the League in 1983, the League Cup in 1979 and 1980 and reached the UEFA Cup Final in 1987. Narey also won the League cup on a third occasion with Raith Rovers towards the end of his career.
He won 35 caps for Scotland, featuring at both the 1982 and 1986 World Cup. Narey’s most memorable international exploit is surely his tremendous strike against Brazil at the 1982 World Cup – made all the more memorable for BBC pundit Jimmy Hill referring to it as a ‘toe poke’.
