Following various loan spells in the lower leagues, he signed for League Two side Coventry City in 2017, winning promotion via the play-offs during his debut season with the club.
A League One title followed in 2020, and after nearly 200 games for the club, the defender signed for Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2022.
He was voted Blackburn’s Player of the Year during his first season and remained a key player throughout his three-year spell with the club before signing for newly promoted Wrexham in September 2025.
At international level, Hyam represented Scotland at Under-19 and Under-21 level before receiving his first call up to the senior squad in March 2023.
He made his full international debut later that year as a late substitute during a crucial EURO 2024 qualifying victory over Norway in Oslo.
Nearly three years after his first cap, the defender made his first Scotland start during a friendly match against Cote d’Ivoire in March 2026.
