After coming through the youth system at Sheffield Wednesday, George Hirst made his senior debut for the club as a seventeen-year-old in August 2016.
He moved to Belgian side OH Leuven in 2018, spending one season at the club before moving back to England with Leicester City.
Shortly after making his Leicester debut, the striker joined Rotherham United on loan for the rest of the season, followed by loan spells at Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town.
His move to Ipswich Town was made permanent ahead of the 2023/24 season, with the striker scoring seven league goals as the club were promoted to the Premier League.
Hirst scored on his first Premier League start in October 2024 and went on to make 26 appearances for the club that season.
At international level, the striker made his debut for Scotland in March 2025 as a second half substitute against Greece during a UEFA Nations League playoff match.
He scored his first Scotland goal on only his second international start, netting the third goal in a 4-0 friendly victory against Liechtenstein.
Hirst was part of the Scotland squad for all six qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making appearances against Denmark and Greece as Scotland qualified for the tournament for the first time in 27 years.
