Following loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons, he made the move back to Scotland with Dundee in 2017 and quickly established himself as a first team regular before a move to Scottish champions Celtic.
Hendry was part of two title winning squads at Celtic Park before moving to Belgian side KV Oostende in 2021 following a successful loan spell.
A move to fellow Belgian side Club Brugge followed, with the defender winning the Belgian Pro League and Belgian Super Cup during his time with the club.
In the summer of 2023, he signed for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
At international level, Hendry was called up to the Scotland squad for the first time in March 2018, making his debut during a friendly victory over Hungary.
He scored his first international goal against The Netherlands during a friendly match ahead of EURO 2020, before starting Scotland’s opening match of the tournament against the Czech Republic.
Hendry was also named in Steve Clarke’s squad for EURO 2024 in Germany, playing in all three of Scotland’s group matches.
The defender was named in all of Steve Clarke’s squads during the successful 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, starting in a 2-1 victory over Belarus at Hampden.
