
Paul Michael Lyons McStay was born 22 October 1964 in Hamilton, Scotland. He made his debut for Celtic in 1982 and would remain at the club for his entire career, winning three league titles and scoring more than 70 goals in his 678 appearances. McStay was made club captain in 1990, a position he would retain until his retirement in 1997. McStay captained Scotland at every age level and led the team to victory at the UEFA European Under-18 Championship. At the age of 18, he was handed his full international debut in a 2-0 win against Uruguay. His international career lasted 14 years, representing Scotland at World Cups in 1986 and 1990, gaining 76 caps and scoring nine goals.
