
After establishing himself in the United first team, the midfielder scored his first goal for the club in April 2019 before creating history as the scorer of the club’s 2000th Premier League goal in October of that year.
He won his first trophy in 2023 as United lifted the League Cup, adding his second trophy the following year as United beat rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
McTominay moved to Italian side Napoli in the summer of 2024 and scored twelve goals during his debut season as the side won the Serie A title.
The midfielder’s impressive form saw him included in the league’s team of the year and named Serie A’s most valuable player.
He was nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in 2025, becoming the first Scotsman to be nominated for the award since 1987.
At international level, McTominay made his Scotland debut during a friendly against Costa Rica in March 2018.
After scoring in penalty shootout victories against Israel and Serbia as Scotland qualified for EURO 2020, he started all three of Scotland’s group games at the tournament itself.
The midfielder was his country’s top scorer during qualification for EURO 2024, which included a brace during a famous victory over Spain at Hampden.
At the tournament, he won his 50th cap during the opening match against Germany and scored during a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in Scotland’s second group game.
McTominay’s most famous moment in a Scotland shirt came in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Denmark in November 2025, when he opened the scoring with a stunning overhead kick as the national team qualified for the World Cup for first time since 1998.
