Steven Archibald was born in Glasgow on 27 September 1956. The distinctive blond striker lost no time making an impression on his international debut, scoring within 20 minutes of coming on as a substitute for Kenny Dalglish against Portugal. One of the few Scottish talents to find success abroad, he began his career at Clyde in 1974 and was snapped up by Aberdeen in January 1978. At Pittodrie he played a major role in winning the Scottish League in 1980 and subsequently moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
