William Henderson was born in Baillieston (Glasgow) on 24 January 1944. Brought up in Airdrie, where he played for the local schools side, Willie Henderson’s mercurial talents brought him to prominence very early in his career: he played for Rangers while 17, for Scotland at 18. He joined Rangers in August 1960 and spent 12 years at Ibrox. The early years were by far the more successful, as he won the Scottish League in 1962/63 and 1963/64, the Scottish Cup in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1966
