Biography
Born in Germany, Sophie Howard started her career as a 15-year-old with German third division side 1899 Hoffenheim where she spent three years before a move to the United States in 2012.

After three years playing college football in the USA, the defender returned to 1899 Hoffenheim, who were now playing in the top tier of German women’s football.

She made 63 league appearances for the side over the next three seasons before a move to English WSL side Reading in the summer of 2018.

A move to second-tier Leicester City followed in July 2020, with Howard helping the team to the Championship title and promotion to the WSL in her debut season with the club.

After five years and over 120 appearances for City, the defender signed for Italian side FC Como in July 2025.

At international level, Howard represented Germany at Under-20 level before switching allegiance to Scotland.

She made her senior international debut in April 2017, coming on as a substitute during a friendly match against Belgium.

After scoring her first international goal against Jamaica in May 2019, the defender was included in Scotland’s 2019 World Cup squad and appeared in group stage matches against England and Argentina at the tournament.

Howard scored her second international goal at the Pinatar Cup in March 2023, adding her third Scotland goal with a dramatic 93rd minute equaliser against Belgium in September of that year.

The defender joined the Scotland International Roll of Honour in June 2024 after winning her 50th cap during a European Championship qualifying victory over Israel.
