Republic of Ireland 0-4 Scotland
Wednesday, 18th November 2015, kick-off 3.30pm
Market’s Field, Limerick (Republic of Ireland)

Scotland sealed their spot in the UEFA Euro U19 Elite Round with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland in Limerick.

First-half goals from Ryan Hardie, Aiden Nesbitt and Ross McCrorie gave Scott Gemmill’s team a healthy advantage before Greg Kiltie confirmed the win with a goal on 67 minutes.

The victory means Scotland finish in second place in Group 1, three points ahead of the Republic of Ireland and Latvia.

Rainy conditions met the players at Limerick’s Market's Field stadium for this must-win fixture but Scotland’s players were quick to shine.

With just two minutes gone Rangers striker Ryan Hardie stole possession from an Irish defender before running through on goal and slotting into the back of the net.

Chances for Euan Mulheron and Olamide Shodipo followed but it was the visitors who added to the scoreline on 22 minutes. Celtic’s Aiden Nesbitt grabbing his second goal of the tournament after sprinting onto the end of a Scotland counter-attack.

As the wind continued to whip around the stadium, Scotland scored their third. Ross McCrorie pouncing onto the end of a cross to fire home on the hour mark. The defender almost had another a few minutes later, but James Talbot got down well to save.

On 62 minutes Greg Kiltie came close. The Kilmarnock man firing at goal from 25 yards, only to see the ball bounce off Talbot and away.

Five minutes later Kiltie was offered yet another chance, this time six yards out from goal. He made no mistake, firing home to give Scotland an unassailable lead.

Kyle Cameron and Scott Wright were both introduced late on as Scotland held on to record a crucial win.

The draw for next spring's Elite Round stage will be made on Thursday 3rd December. Those three games will serve as qualifiers for the UEFA U19 European Championships in Germany, taking place in July 2016.
