Team News

Scotland were hit with a number of key players being unavailable for selection due to injury, including Tommy Conway, Lewis Fiorini and Calvin Ramsay. Further blows occurred when Josh Doig and Lyall Cameron were forced to withdraw from the squad that was initially named.

Those absences gave opportunities to other players with Aidan Denholm, Kerr Smith and Finlay Robertson all being drafted in for their first Under-21 call-ups.

As It Happened

Scotland had the perfect start to the game, taking the lead with just two minutes on the clock. Kieron Bowie made his way past a number of Hungary players and into the box before slotting the ball into the far corner of the net.

In the seventh minute, Scotland scored again. Ben Doak slipped the ball to Max Johston who played the ball high into the box, meeting the head of Bowie who had rose above everyone else to head the ball home for his second of the game.

Scotland were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute for a foul on Ben Doak a few yard inside the box. Doak stepped up to take the penalty and kept his composure to slot a cool finish into the bottom left hand corner.

Hungary got a goal back a few minutes before half time when a corner was played into the box which fell to Barnabás Kovács at the back post area. His initial effort was blocked by Cieran Slicker however he Kovács pounced to slot away the rebound.

The second half more a tighter affair, with Scotland happy to hold on to their lead - although Ibane Bowat's thunderbolt almost made it 4-1.

In the final few seconds of the game, Max Johnston received his second yellow card of the game and as a result was sent off, reducing Scotland to 10 men.

Hungary did not have time to take advantage, however, and the three goals from Scotland in the first half were enough to see them take all three points from the game.
