The Scottish FA has marked Giving Tuesday by contributing to two charities with close ties to the association, both of whom are working to improve the lives of children nationwide.
Children 1st – the Scottish FA’s nominated charity – and the Tartan Army Children’s Charity, the nominated charity of the Scotland Supporters’ Club, will both receive donations as they continue their tireless work in supporting vulnerable children across Scotland and beyond.
Having received a generous donation from Scotland goalkeeper Scott Bain prior to the team’s encounter with Israel earlier this month, today marks another boost for Children 1st, who are working with the Scottish FA to improve mental and physical health and wellbeing amongst young people through the power of football.
The Tartan Army Children’s Charity (TACC), meanwhile, have themselves been using football as a medium to improve the lives of children around the country, with their ‘My First Scotland Match’ initiative having benefitted hundreds of children in its decade-long existence to date.
Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell was enthusiastic about the donations, saying:
“‘Giving Tuesday’ is a great idea, and it provides the Scottish FA the opportunity to give back to our nominated charities.
“We appreciate how football has the ability to change lives, and working with both TACC and Children 1st allows us to do this in a way that we could not directly do ourselves. We know our donations will make a difference to disadvantaged children and families across Scotland.”
Neil Campion, Funding Manager for the Scottish FA, added:
“We are delighted to make a donation to Children 1st on Giving Tuesday, and hope the funds help support the work they do around helping Scotland’s families to put children first, with practical advice and support in difficult times. As Scotland’s national children’s charity and the Scottish FA’s nominated charity, we’re delighted to be able to support them in their efforts to improve the lives of children around the country.
“Our Supporters’ Club have been involved with the Tartan Army Children’s Charity for a number of years to help them raise funds for disadvantaged children in Scotland and in the countries TACC visit whilst supporting Scotland’s national team. We hope our Giving Tuesday donation will help TACC to arrange more activities and to continue the work they do at home and abroad.”
