Football has the power to inspire a nation, and that was certainly the case when Steve Clarke and his squad sealed qualification for UEFA EURO 2024.
Through the Scottish FA’s Learning Through Football platform, the challenge was set for children between the ages of 8-12 to create a short story, of no more than 300 words, titled ‘We’re Off To Germany’.
The response was amazing, with 11-year-old Shekinah coming out on top with her entry, which you can read in full in the official match programme for Scotland’s forthcoming friendly against Finland.
Jen Malone, Scottish FA Regional Manager, said: “This is the second year we’ve run this competition and it’s always amazing to see the creative stories that the children send in.
“We had a really hard job picking just one winner.
“This year we linked with award-winning author Dan Freedman, who was able to provide some amazing advice and support for those using our Learning Through Football materials. That really added to the kids’ overall experience.
“Congratulations to Shekinah and thank you to everyone else who took part.
“I’m sure Steve and the players will be inspired when they get a chance to read her short story.”
