Biography
Thomas Boyd was born 24 November 1965 in Glasgow, Scotland. He signed for Motherwell in 1983 and made 252 appearances for the Lanarkshire side, most notably captaining the team to a 4-3 victory over Dundee United in the 1991 Scottish Cup final. Following that success, Boyd moved down south to Chelsea but returned to Scotland the following year when he signed for Celtic where he spent the rest of his career, making more than 300 appearances. He became club captain in 1997 and led the side that won Celtic’s famous treble in the 2000-2001 season. Boyd played his first match for Scotland as a substitute in a European Championships qualifier for Scotland in 1990. In total, he won 72 caps representing Scotland at European Championships in Sweden in 1992 and in England in 1996, and at the 1998 World Cup in France.
