Biography
Stuart McCall played in central midfield for Scotland, Bradford, Everton, Sheffield United and Rangers.
He played a total of 763 league games during his career, and represented Scotland 40 times.
McCall was famously picked for England and Scotland under-21 sides on the same day in 1984, and chose to play for England in a game against Turkey.
However he did not take to the field that day, and went on to become a Scotland stalwart.
He made his Scotland under-21 debut in March 1988, ironically against England. McCall won his first senior cap on 28 March 1990 in a 1–0 friendly victory over Argentina and was called up to the Italia 90 World Cup squad.
He played in all three of Scotland's World Cup games and scored his only international goal in a 2–1 victory over Sweden on 16 June 1990.
McCall also represented Scotland at the European Championships in 1992 and in 1996.
He was named assistant national coach by Gordon Strachan in January 2013.
