Biography
James is responsible for one of the most iconic moments in Scotland's recent footballing history, thanks to his spectacular goal in the famous 1-0 win over France at the Parc de Princes during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.
James came through the Motherwell youth system, breaking into the first team as a 17-year old in season 2000/01. He went on to win the SPFA Young Player of the Year Award two years later, before moving to Everton in September 2003.
He joined former Scotland manager, Alex McLeish, at Birmingham City in January 2008. After a successful first season, James suffered a succession of knee injuries and was ruled out of the entire 2010/11 season.
James made his Scotland debut in 2002, aged 19, against South Africa, and scored his first goal in a Euro 2004 qualifying win over Faroe Islands.
