Biography
Ryan joined the youth academy of his hometown club Aberdeen at the age of eight. He came through the ranks and made his senior debut in 2010 after which he became a first-team regular. His performances in midfield were pivotal to the Dons resurgence in the league and regular appearances in European competition - so much so that he was named club captain for the 2015-16 season.
In June 2017, after 250 appearances, Ryan left Aberdeen and signed a three-year contract with Rangers. Soon after, he made his senior debut for Scotland, appearing in a friendly against the Netherlands in November 2017. During his time with Aberdeen, Ryan was a key member of the Scotland Under-21s squad. He regularly captained the team and sits in the top ten for most capped players for the Scotland national team at under-21 level.
