
A product of the Aston Villa Youth Academy, Barry first came to prominence in 2007 playing a pivotal role in the Academy's title winning season. He made his senior debut as a substitute in a UEFA Cup match against Hamburg in 2008. Barry made his Scotland under-21 debut against Albania in March 2009 and featured throughout the 2009/11 Euro qualifying campaign, winning plaudits for his stylish midfield displays. He gained his first full international cap in a friendly against Faroe Islands in November 2010, and was named man-of-the-match in his competitive debut, a 1-0 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Lithuania at Hampden.
